Florida State University, Academic Center / University Center

Location Tallahassee, Florida

Project Detail

Florida State University’s Academic/ University Center was a significantly challenging structural engineering project for Bliss & Nyitray. We were able to create a landmark multi-functional center that vastly enhanced the FSU campus.

Faced with an acute shortage of on-campus academic facilities, the university chose to undertake a “wrap-around” design approach, using the existing Doak Campbell Stadium as a basis for a new 600,000 sf Academic/University Center, The new center includes academic and administrative space in eight new structures that vary in height from four to nine stories. In addition, new athletic facilities were incorporated into the multi-phase project design, and the stadium capacity was increased.

The successful completion of the Academic/University Center has far exceeded the university’s original goals for the project.

BNI’s responsiveness to our needs during the conceptual, design and construction stages enabled Florida State University to obtain a premiere multi-purpose facility.
