Since the Rangers departure in 2002 the stadium waited for a new team and in 2005 the Tamp Bay Rays became the new tenant. The renovations turned a bland stadium into a fan-friendly ballpark. The construction was completed in 18 months for the 2009 Opening season with a new team name the Tampa Bay Rays.
