Ritz-Carlton™ Hotel Expansion and Club

Location St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Project Detail

With more than a half-mile of beach frontage and a hilly terrain, this 27-acre site offers spectacular views of Great Bay and Mueller Bay. The tranquil appearance belies the structural design challenges, with seismic (earthquake) requirements similar to those in California, and wind (hurricane) speeds comparable to those in South Florida. Due to the topography and adjacent shoreline, the buildings are founded partly on shallow foundations and partly on
precast piling.

The expansion includes four 20-unit, 4- and 5-story buildings for the Ritz Carlton Club, two 24-unit buildings for the expansion of the hotel, a 7,000 sf spa, 30-slip marina and other ancillary buildings. Construction was coordinated to minimize disruption to the Resort.
